Roots Are Souls
ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
This artwork originated from an experimental exploration on matboard, utilizing a gift of assorted boards. Intrigued by drip effects, I incorporated acrylic and pearlesque metallic ink, complemented by vibrant watercolours. As the black drips dried, I organically extended them into tree-like forms with a fountain pen, blurring the line between spontaneity and intentionality.
Exploiting the natural division between the top and bottom sections, I contrasted a vivid, above-ground atmosphere with a subdued, subterranean essence. The trees, depicted with lively branches above and nourishing roots below, symbolize a dual vitality, bridging the earthly and ethereal. The metallic white hues hint at optimism, portraying the roots as recipients of sustenance and vitality from above, evoking a sense of hope rather than melancholy.
