Josyan McGregor is a self-taught mixed-media artist and senior designer based in Longueuil (Greenfield Park), Quebec, with over twenty years of experience in the creative industries.
Her practice draws on a sustained engagement with design, architecture, and visual communication, disciplines she regards as deeply interconnected rather than separate pursuits.
That cross-disciplinary perspective informs the work she makes today: atmospheric interpretations of landscapes and botanical forms built from watercolour, acrylic, collage, and pastels. The resulting compositions are layered and tactile, carrying a quality of quiet and grounding that translates well into residential and professional interiors.
My Artistic Approach
My work begins with instinct. Guided by sensitivity to colour and shape, I move between watercolour, acrylics, occasional oil, and digital illustration to build what I call imagined landscapes: abstractions rooted not in how the natural world looks, but in how it is remembered. Flora and landscapes serve as my starting points, though the finished work is less about documentation than about the emotional residue a place or plant can leave behind.
Layering is central to my process. Each medium contributes its own texture and weight, and I work across them to create surfaces that hold both depth and atmosphere. The interplay of light within these layers is where meaning tends to settle. The work can be read as an invitation to personal recollection, a space where a viewer’s own memory of nature might surface alongside mine.
Exhibitions
My work has been curated and exhibited through Gallea, reaching diverse audiences across Quebec and Canada, and most recently, can also be viewed at Café Kanapé – espace culturel in Longueuil.
